It is only my fourth day here at Governor's School but i feel like i have been here for a while. Not in a bad way. I really enjoy this. I feel more free, not cooped up like i was at home. I go where i want and do what i want and there are far less restrictions because we are expected to be adults. The only real restrictions we have are curfews, boundaries and public displays of affection. They don't really bug me that much but i wouldn't be able to go like that for a whole year. Oh yeah, and there are only two punishments here. The minor punishment is that we get early curfew, that is if we break curfew or forget to sign-out or sign-in when we go off campus. The other punishment has become a student body-wide joke. If someone questions an action, like, is it against the rules to go here or there? The other students usually warn that person not to do it or he or she will get "summarily dismissed". It's a joke because "summarily" is so emphasized and it's kind of unnecessary but i guess it's the best way to get it across to us that it's not an empty threat. I just don't get why they couldn't say "immediately". Probably becasue it wouldn't draw as much attention.
I have gotten my first research assignment on anthropology. What is the Purpose of Anthropology? I dunno... Ruth Benedict said, "The purpose of Anthropology is to make the world safe for human differences." I suppose that would be true because if we study human emotions and actions, those studies would probably show how a person would react in certain situations, thus reducing the amount of ethnicentrism. Heh heh, heck yeah, i learned a new word. Ethnicentrism means that one assumes his or her beliefs and culture is correct and that any differing belief or culture is wrong. That is having a really small mind. It's a shame that we even have anyone like that.
Anyway, I need to get back to my research. I don't want to get "summarily dismissed".
